Using Industry Search

How to search

The Industry Search has been designed to easily locate a particular Industry, Sub-sector and Work Activity by browsing through a hierarchical list – you can search for cases and breaches at any level in the hierarchy.

Please Note:

For prosecutions taken in Ireland, please refer to the Health & Safety Authority Ireland and the Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland websites.

Select the Industry search link from the Homepage

If you want to search for Cases or Breaches, by industry, then you need to use the Industry Search.

The industry search allows you to search for Cases or Breaches for a particular:

  • Industry Sector
  • Sub-Sector
  • Activity

These activities are also known as Standard Industrial Classifications (SIC).

The 5 Industry sectors are listed at the top level and can be expanded to show the sub-sectors and main work activities.  They 5 top levels are:

  • Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry and Fishing
  • Construction
  • Extractive Industries, Utlilities, Sewerage, Waste Management and Remediation Activities
  • Manufacturing
  • Services

The 5 sectors (e.g. Services) can be expanded to show the sub-sectors (e.g. Education) and main work activities (e.g. Primary education). You can find cases or breaches at any level.  To do this:

  • Click on the Industry sector link to display the list of related sub-sectors.  There may be more than one sub-sector level
  • Select the sub-sector you are interested in. Again, there may be more than on level
  • Click the link to the next sub-sector required
  • A list of activity codes and related work activities are displayed

At any stage of the above process you have the opportunity to select ‘Cases’ or ‘Breaches’.  This will provide a complete list against the category you have selected.

Managing search results

What information appears on the Case list?

Whatever search criteria you use, the list will always display the same information:

  • Case Number
  • Defendant's Name
  • Offence Date
  • Local Authority
  • Main Activity

At the top of the page it also displays the number of results, and pages of information, matching the search.  There are a maximum of 10 records per page.

How to select a case from the list

  • Click on the unique Case Number
  • If the Case you require does not appear on the first page - click on the page number link at the bottom of the page to view the other pages

How to re-sort the case hit list

You can re-sort any of the following columns:

  • Case Number
  • Defendant's Name
  • Offence Date
  • Local Authority
  • Main Activity

To do this, simply select one of the above column names from the drop down list and click ‘Sort’. This will then display the cases in the new sort order.
